A special meeting of the Sallisaw School Board has been called for noon Friday to discuss modifying the employment contract of Sallisaw Superintendent Scott Farmer.
Frank Sullivan III, a member of the school board, confirmed with KXMX that a meeting has been set for Friday with only the one item on the agenda.
Sullivan said that while he cannot speak for the entire board, he said he thinks most everyone recognizes that Farmer is an asset to the school district.
“Scott is a wonderful superintendent. He is going to have other employment opportunities, and we want to make sure he understands – and the community understands – we don’t want him to go anywhere, and we want to be competitive with any prospective employment opportunities,” Sullivan said.
“This is about letting Mr. Farmer know how important he is to us,” Sullivan added.
According to the agenda posted at the administration office, the board will convene in executive session to discuss the agenda item.
Farmer’s tenure with the district has included many improvements in school structures, including the construction of the new Sallisaw Middle School, which came in under budget. Most recently, Farmer rallied at the state capitol with a moving speech to help convince legislators to fund education.
