Sock Hop Is an Open House for Event Center

The old cafeteria at the Sallisaw’s old middle school is now the Old Sallisaw High School Association’s Event Center and is decorated for a 1950s Sock Hop planned for March 17.

Poodle skirts, bobby socks, and saddle oxfords, if you can find them…Those items will be in style at the Old Sallisaw High School Association 1950s Sock Hop on March 17.

Crystal Martin Hardy, one of the event organizers, said, “I’ve got my poodle skirt!”

The Sock Hop and Open House will be held at the Black Diamond Event Center, at 220 W. Creek, which is the old middle school cafeteria.

Hardy said, “This is an open house for the event center. We want to introduce the community to the event center. Hey, come on in and see what we’ve done.”

The event center has been decorated in a 1950s theme, Hardy said. The sock hop will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., and admission is free. A concession stand will be available. Hardy said cupcakes, ice cream and Coke and root beer floats will be available.

Hardy said the event center will be available for lease for other events, and comes equipped with tables, chairs and appliances, most of which were donated.

“We’d like to do more like this for the community,” Hardy said.
