Appreciation Offered to Officers

The staff from the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office recently shared a holiday party at the Sequoyah County Fairgrounds in Sallisaw. Seated in front from the left, are Charles House, chief deputy; Sheriff Larry Lane Jr.; and Undersheriff Greg Cox.

Law enforcement officers were told ‘thank you’ on Jan. 9, during National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day (LEAD).

Amy Edwards, investigator with the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office, thanked fellow officers on social media by helping draw attention to LEAD.

She said, “I just thought we should say thank you for your service, and for taking time away from your families in all the worst weather conditions.”

According to the LEAD website, “Jan. 9 is when partnering organizations in support of law enforcement officers nationwide promote National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. In light of recent negativity directed toward law enforcement nationally, there is a need to show law enforcement officers that citizens recognize the difficult and sometimes impossible career they have chosen, in public service to us all.”

LEAD is sponsored by Concerns of Police Survivors, or COPS.

They reported, “Each year we call our nation’s citizens to action in support of law enforcement. Those citizens who appreciate law enforcement and are discouraged about the negative attention given to law enforcement are encouraged to take time to show their support.”
