Vian Man Sentenced

Kyle Reece Major

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Muskogee announced Thursday that Kyle Reece Major, age 33, of Vian was sentenced to 17 months imprisonment, and three years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The Indictment alleged that on or about Dec. 29, 2014, Major, having been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year, did knowingly possess a firearm and ammunition which had been shipped and transported in interstate commerce.

U.S. Attorney Brian J. Kuester said, “This office is committed to working with our federal, state, local and tribal partners to protect the public from violent offenders. Enforcement of the federal laws that prohibit convicted felons from possession of firearms is one way that we are able to protect the public. I am thankful for the work of the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and members of the United States Attorney’s Office, for their work on this case and their commitment to public safety.”

U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White presided over the hearing. The defendant will remain in custody pending transportation to the designated federal facility at which the non-paroleable sentence will be served.
