Veterans Day Events Planned


Several communities and organizations will be honoring our veterans this year. The following events are planned.

-Thursday: The Cherokee Nation will host its annual Veterans Day ceremony at the Cherokee Nation Veterans Center in Tahlequah.

The Cherokee Nation Veterans Appreciation Day event starts at 9 a.m. and includes a continental breakfast and wreath-laying ceremony. Weather permitting, the tribe will also offer several outdoor events, including cultural activities, a resource fair and a hog fry for Cherokee veterans and their families at the Joe Thornton Archery Range after the wreath-laying ceremony at the Cherokee Nation Veterans Center. The Joe Thornton Archery Range is located west of the W.W. Keeler Tribal Complex.

-Friday: The annual Veterans Day Assembly will be held at 10 a.m. in the gym at Gore School. Special speakers are scheduled for the program.

-Saturday: The annual Veterans Day Ceremony, sponsored by the Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce and American Legion Post #27 will be held at 11 a.m. on the lawn at Stanley Tubbs Memorial Library in downtown Sallisaw. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
