Gore Man Charged with Embezzlement

Donald Joe Barnhill Jr.

A Gore man is accused of embezzlement in Sequoyah County District Court, Sallisaw, and was charged Oct. 20 with taking $29,120 from his place of employment, Dollar General in Vian.

Donald Joe Barnhill Jr., 44, entered a not guilty plea to the charge on Nov. 1. He is free on a $2,000 bond, and his next court appearance is set for Jan. 10 on Associated District Judge Kyle Waters disposition docket.

According to the report filed with the charges by the Vian police officer who arrested Barnhill, the suspect confessed to the embezzlement when confronted by the Dollar General Regional Loss Prevention Manager.

Barnhill confessed that he took $100 deposits for gambling, and, when he fell behind, he took more money to try to catch up. The embezzlement took place over a two-month period, between August and October, Barnhill said.
