Christian Goode, a Sequoyah County deputy, was justified when he shot and killed a man in Muldrow on Oct. 20, District Attorney Jack Thorp has decided.
Thorp released a statement to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) reporting he will not prosecute Goode for the death of Phillip Trammell, 30.
“It is clear from the investigation which includes numerous witness statements, items of evidence, photographs, and body camera footage that Deputy Goode was acting within the law and was justified in utilizing deadly force when he was attacked by Phillip Trammell at 10th and Enid in Muldrow, Oklahoma on October 20, 2017”, said District Attorney Jack Thorp.
Goode and Muldrow Officer Brad Roberts were to serve an arrest warrant for Trammel for being a non-compliant sex offender on Oct. 20. They were searching a home in Muldrow when Trammel jumped from underneath a pile of clothes and could be seen with a knife in hand. In spite of being ordered to surrender, Trammel ran at Goode and stabbed him several times.
Roberts’ body camera recorded the confrontation and the shooting.
Goode was treated for his stab wounds at a Fort Smith hospital, and was placed on leave while the investigation into the shooting took place. Sheriff Larry Lane said Goode was still on leave, and still sore, but was recovering.
