Plans Underway for Halloween on Elm Street

The Sallisaw Police Department will be holding the annual Halloween on Elm Street from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 31.

The department’s Katie Horton is in charge of the preparations, and she said Police Chief Terry Franklin invites all organizations, churches and other groups to join in the fun.

For the Halloween street festival, the police department closes off Elm Street in front of the Sallisaw Civic Center. The festival has grown so much, it has spread into Chickasaw Street in front of the police department.

Local groups who want to participate set up tables and booths along both sides of Elm Street to offer treats and other goodies to kids in costumes. Games are also played and sponsored by the groups, and a Bounce Around will be set up, Horton said.

Horton asks that those groups planning to participate contact her at 918-775-4177, extension 517, to record their plans.

Halloween on Elm Street has grown throughout the years, and over 2,000 trick or treaters and their parents attended last year, Horton said.
