Students Get SWAT Training at People Inc.

Students from Brushy, Gans, Sallisaw, Vian, Moffett and Liberty Schools
recently attended healthy living training at People Inc. in Sallisaw.

Students from Brushy, Gans, Sallisaw, Vian, Moffett and Liberty Public Schools attended the annual Student Wellness Advocacy Team (SWAT) Training at the People Inc. Conference center on Wednesday.

They learned about nutrition, physical activity and tobacco cessation and developed activities and ideas that they can implement throughout the hallways of their schools and in their communities. They all shared one mission and that is to help spread the word and engage others, both young and old, in learning about ways to improve their communities’ overall health and wellness.

The program had four guest speakers, Chantel Hartman, Lindsie Ellis, Janis Cravatt and James Tyree. They provided an educational experience for the students on healthy living.

Lindsie Dyer, People Inc. Youth and Family Service Counselor/Coordinator TSET Healthy Living Program Director, said, “On behalf of the TSET Healthy Living Program we would like to thank all of our speakers as well as our Adult Partners for participating in this year’s training. I was impressed at how many great speakers we had! These kids were actively engaged the entire day. They all had very creative ideas and presented them without any hesitation.”

The SWAT training is hosted every year by the People Inc. TSET Healthy Living Program Staff: Dyer -TSET Healthy Living Program Director, Kim Netz - TSET Healthy Living Program Coordinator, and Tricia Wall -TSET Healthy Living Program Wellness Coordinator.
