County Remains Under Burn Ban

A burn ban was issued for Sequoyah County by county commissioners Thursday morning.

The ban will be effective for seven days or until cancelled, said Steve Rutherford, Sequoyah County Emergency Management director.

Sequoyah County and other Oklahoma counties were under a burn ban issued by Gov. Mary Fallin. But, due to rain earlier in the week, Fallin lifted the state burn ban Wednesday afternoon. That left the prerogative to issue a burn ban with county commissioners. Sequoyah County commissioners met in an emergency meeting Thursday morning to reinstate the burn ban.
