Vietnam Veterans Photos, Stories Sought for Display

Vietnam veterans and their families are invited to participate in the Muldrow Public Library’s Photos from the Past display.

The display, titled “Revolution: From Pages to Change,” will be open at the library from Feb. 12 through April 20, and will feature photos of and stories about the veterans.

Bethia Owens, librarian, said the display will be part of the series of events sponsored by the Eastern Oklahoma District Library System.

Owens said, “The library wishes to honor and say thank you to those who served. It was March 8, 1965, when 3,500 Marines landed near Da Nang in South Vietnam, the first ‘boots on the ground’ troops to arrive in Vietnam. Those who returned home were not always met with gratitude, and now, over 50 years later, we would like to look back, honor and remember those who came home and those who did not.”

Veterans, and their families with photos of the veterans, from that time period, 1965 to 1975, are invited to bring their photos to the library where the library staff will scan the photo, convert it to a digital file, and immediately return the photo to the owner. There will be a short biographical form to complete including where and when the photo was taken.

Using the digital file, the staff will then create a photo display honoring the veterans and illustrating the history of the Vietnam War.

Photos may be brought to the library during regular business hours throughout January until Jan. 30. The Muldrow Public Library is at 711 W. Shawntel Smith Blvd. For more information call 918-427-6703.
