Sallisaw Man Charged Faces Drug, Gun Charges

A 42-year-old rural Sallisaw man was charged Jan. 10 in Sequoyah County District Court with unlawful possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during commission of a felony.

Court records indicate Ronald Gene Bono of the Low Gap area north of Sallisaw and off U.S. Highway 59 was arrested during a drug investigation on Jan. 3.

Agents with the District 27 Drug Task Force and the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Department conducted the investigation at Bono’s home.

They reported finding four gallon glass jars containing a green, leafy substance, a portion of which tested positive for marijuana. Also found were a .22 caliber rifle and a .30-30 rifle.

After being read his Miranda rights, according to the report, Bono agreed to talk with the officers and said he had raised the marijuana but did not sell it. He gave it away to his friends.

Bono was released on a $26,000 bond on Jan. 4.

He entered a not guilty plea to the charges on Friday, and his next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 24 on Special District Judge Matt Orendorff‘s disposition docket.
