Heaters, Blankets, Coats Needed at Helping Center

The cold Oklahoma weather has prompted an urgent need for heaters, blankets and coats at Catholic Charities Helping Center in Sallisaw.

MaryLynn Lufkin, center director, said the center is receiving numerous requests for small space heaters.

“Heaters are the most requested item right now,” Lufkin said Thursday. “We gave our last one out Wednesday.”

Lufkin said one small heater, by heating even one room, can keep an entire family warm and comfortable.

The small heaters usually cost between $16 and $20 and are available at several local stores.

Lufkin said the center also needs “good, warm blankets in all sizes,” and coats in all sizes.

“We especially need children’s and plus-size coats for both men and women,” Lufkin said. “We never ever have enough plus-size coats donated.”

Lufkin said donations may be brought to the Helping Center at 409 N. Adams Street in Sallisaw from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

For more information on needed items contact the center at 918-775-6111.

Lufkin concluded, “May God bless you for helping our less fortunate neighbors keep warm this winter.”
