Shooting Report Will Go to DA on Tuesday

The police report on a fatality shooting Saturday will be turned over to the Sequoyah County District Attorney’s office on Tuesday, Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart said Monday.

The district attorney’s office was closed on Monday due to the Columbus Day holiday.

Lockhart said the shooting was reported near the intersection of Highway 59 South and Highway 141, south of Sallisaw, at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

The victim was Tracy Lee Cardwell, 45, of Sallisaw.

Lockhart said the shooter, who has not been identified, called police and said Cardwell barged into the shooter’s home and was causing problems.

Cardwell was shot in the lower torso and was transported to a Fort Smith hospital where he later died.

The shooter was taken into custody on an unrelated warrant, Lockhart said.

Cardwell’s body was transported to the medical examiner’s office in Tulsa for an autopsy, Lockhart said.
