Roland Couple Face Grand Larceny Charges

A Roland couple has been charged with grand larceny in Sequoyah County District Court, Sallisaw, after allegedly stealing a refrigerator, lock boxes and headphones form the Pilot Travel Center in Roland.

The theft was reported on Aug. 29.

Charged are Johnathan Joseph Gonzalez, 26, and the woman described in the charges as his wife, Brantley Leigh Marthers, 27. They will be arraigned on the charges Sept. 21, and both are free on $3,000 bonds each.

According to the Roland police report filed with the charges, police were dispatched to the travel center at 9:15 p.m. Aug. 29 to investigate the theft of a mini refrigerator. Police were able to identify the suspects from photos and a video supplied by the center. The photos show a man and woman gathering the merchandise, with a value of $540.63, and leaving the store through a back door.

Contacted on Aug. 30, Gonzalez and Mathers denied the theft. Contacted a second time on Sept. 6 at a Muldrow motel, Gonzalez confessed to having the lock boxes. According to the report, he then told the officer that he “could get the refrigerator back if it would get him out of trouble.”

Both suspects were then arrested and booked into the Sequoyah County Jail.

According to the court record grand larceny is punishable by imprisonment for up to five years and a fine of up to $5,000.
