Murder Suspects Court Dates Continued; Victim’s Body Still Not Found

The court proceedings for three men (above) accused of murder were continued Wednesday in Sequoyah County District Court, Sallisaw.

A court official said the disposition docket appearances for Michael Anthony Snelling, 22, Charles Blake Shamblin, 25, and Tyler Paul Leverett, 22, all of Webber Falls, were continued because Associate District Judge Kyle Waters was involved in a trial and unavailable.

Snelling and Shamblin are both charged with first-degree murder and Leverett is charged with second-degree murder.

Shamblin’s disposition docket appearance was reset for Oct. 26. The continuance date for Snelling and Leverett was not on the court records and a court official said the judge was to visit with the defense attorneys to reset the court dates.

The charges relate to the disappearance of another Webbers Falls man whose body has not been found—Matthew Scott Fagan. Fagan was last seen at about 3:30 p.m. on June 21 at the Buzzard Roost Hiking Trail at Lake Tenkiller. Those he was with told investigators Fagan complained that his ankle hurt and he went back to the group’s vehicle. When the others returned, Fagan could not be found, the companions said.

But investigators, suspicious, continued their investigation into Fagan’s disappearance, and their reports filed with arrest affidavit and murder charges, revealed that at least two of three suspects blame the other for killing Fagan and dumping the body in Lake Tenkiller.

Authorities have searched Lake Tenkiller and the area surrounding the lake without finding Fagan’s body.

Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart said Thursday the three suspects are still in jail, and will remain there because the three men said Fagan was killed, although Snelling and Shamblin blame each other.

Lockhart said investigators are currently searching cell phone records. He hopes to have more information in about two weeks.
