Man, Woman Charged with Aiding Minors in Crime

A Sallisaw man and woman were charged last week in Sequoyah County District Court in Sallisaw with aiding minors in drug crimes and other drug-related charges.

Matthew Dunlap, 21, and Raven Jewell, 19, are charged with causing, aiding and abetting minors in drug crime, a felony, and a misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Jewell also faces a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled, dangerous substance. Dunlap faces an additional felony count of possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

According to the police report filed with the charges, the officer stopped a GMC Terrain shortly after 10 p.m. on June 20 after the driver ran a red light at the corner of Cherokee and Maple Street in Sallisaw. The officer reported smelling marijuana during the traffic stop, and asked the vehicle’s occupants to step out. The officer also reported smelling marijuana on the person of the suspects, and noted that Dunlap had red bloodshot eyes and was very nervous.

The officer reported three juveniles were in the back of the vehicle. Two of the juveniles were age 14 and one was age 13. When questioned, according to the report, the juveniles admitted to having illegal items, and they turned over smoking devices, a baggy containing a green, leafy substance and a yellow pill. The juveniles told the officers that “they were smoking marijuana with Matt Dunlap while Raven Jewell drove them around town.”

All five suspects were arrested. Dunlap and Jewell were booked into the county jail. The three juveniles were released to their parents.
