A man who led law enforcement officers on a chase west from Fort Smith to near Sallisaw on U.S. Highway 64 faces additional charges in Sequoyah County District Court in Sallisaw.
John Frank Crossno, 37, was charged Feb. 3 in district court with possession of a stolen vehicle, larceny of automobile, eluding/attempting to elude police officer, all felonies, and a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
According to the report by the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Deputy who helped chase down Crossno on Jan. 20, he joined the chase west of Muldrow along with other deputies. Muldrow, Roland and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol were also involved in the pursuit.
The deputy reported stop sticks were deployed near the intersection of U.S. Highway 64 and Central High Road. The deputy reported he then saw the vehicle, a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer, run off the road, and the suspect bolt from the vehicle.
The reporting deputy helped subdue Crossno at the scene. Later, as Crossno was processed into the Sequoyah County Detention Center in Sallisaw, the reporting deputy was contacted about contraband found on Crossno’s person. At the jail the deputy reported he took possession of a plastic bag containing a green, leafy substance that smelled of marijuana, a small pill identified as acetaminophen/hydrocodone and a pair of brass knuckles.
In connection to the same pursuit incident, Crossno was charged Jan. 26 in district court with malicious injury to property over $1,000 and grand larceny. He entered a not guilty plea to those charges. That case is set to be reviewed on Judge Kyle Waters disposition docket March 2.
