Second Man Arrested in Connection with Death

A second man has been arrested in connection with the beating death of a rural Vian man.

Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart stated Friday, "On Oct. 1 at 11 p.m. a second suspect, Kyle Major, who resides in the Vian area was arrested for accessory to murder second degree and obstructing (an officer) in regard to the Pliney Dane Crum murder investigation." The sheriff's department arrested Major after discovering that he had lied to them regarding his involvement in the case after they obtained video surveillance footage which showed Major using the victim's credit card.

"Major was arrested in the parking lot of McQuicks store and transported to the Sequoyah County Jail where he is being held on no bond," added Lockhart.

Lockhart said Major is believed to have driven the first suspect to the residence of Crum, 31, north of Vian. Crum was found Tuesday unconscious in the garage, suffering from trauma injuries to the face and head. He was flown to a Tulsa hospital and died at about 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, Lockhart said.

The first suspect, Micheal Buster, 23, of Vian, was found at the scene and arrested then for public intoxication. The investigation led to Buster's arrest on suspicion of second-degree murder. He is being held in the county jail without bond. Lockhart said it was believed the suspect and the victim met only about an hour before the incident. Crum's body was sent to the state medical examiner's office in Tulsa.

Lockhart said it is believed alcohol was involved in the incident.
