Cherokee Nation health officials will be offering free flu vaccinations for Cherokee Nation citizens and their non-Native family members living in the household through November to prepare for flu season.
Health officials have vaccination clinics scheduled this month and the next throughout the tribe's 14-county service area.
In Sequoyah County, staff from the Redbird Smith Health Center in Sallisaw will offer the vaccinations at the following:
-Marble City School 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 27;
-Roland Schools 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 29;
-Gore School 9 a.m. to noon on Nov. 2;
-Marble City Nutrition Center 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 3;
-Sallisaw Nutrition Center 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 5;
-Vian Public School 9 a.m. to noon on Nov. 10;
-Sallisaw Public Schools 9 a.m. to noon on Nov. 12 and 13.
The flu season typically runs September to March but each year it peaks during different months. The tribe has vaccinated at least 35,000 people during flu season in recent years.
