The Cherokee Nation recently donated $33,000 to 10 county fair boards, including the Sequoyah County Fair Board, and the Tulsa Fair to help the organizations maintain fairgrounds and buy equipment, trophies and ribbons.

Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Bill John Baker, Deputy Chief S. Joe Crittenden, Secretary of State Chuck Hoskin Jr. and tribal councilors presented each fair board a $3,000 check at the W.W. Keeler Tribal Complex on Aug. 19.
"Supporting the local fair boards within the Cherokee Nation is important because it helps preserve our strong partnerships with our friends at the county government," said Chief Baker. "These funds are typically used for the upkeep of the fairgrounds so that all citizens can enjoy the public space."
The Cherokee Nation annually donates money to fair boards in all 14 counties of the tribe's jurisdiction.
