Two Arrested for Counterfeit Bills

Two Arkansas residents were arrested Aug. 10 in Sallisaw and booked on counterfeit money charges, Sallisaw Police Chief Terry Franklin reported.

Mark Weeks, 41, of Van Buren and Sumer Weeks, 36, with a Fort Smith address, were arrested by city police after a clerk at the Dollar Tree store reported a person had just tried to pass a counterfeit $100 bill at the store. When police stopped the suspects, they found about $7,000 in counterfeit money in the Weeks' possession. Both were arrested and booked into the city jail. They were later transferred to the county jail.

Franklin said it was learned that Sumer Weeks was also wanted by the U.S. Marshals for a probation violation. He said the Secret Service has been contacted and is conducting a joint investigation with the Sallisaw Police into the Weeks' activities.

As of Friday, Mark Weeks was free on a $5,000 bond, but Sumer Weeks was still in the county jail on holds from other law enforcement agencies.
