Two wrecks in Sequoyah County over the July 4 holiday resulted in hospitalizations, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reported.
A Knoxville, Tennessee man was flown to Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith following a one-car crash at about 1 p.m. July 4. The crash was at mile marker 329 on Interstate 40, four miles east of Roland in Sequoyah County. The OHP reported Brandon Canada, 31, was driving a 2003 Toyota SUV east on the interstate when, for an unidentified reason, he left the road to the left and struck a tree. Canada was pinned for a short while until freed by Roland Fire and Rescue. Canada was listed in stable condition with leg injuries.
In another crash, a Glenpool woman was hospitalized following a motorcycle crash at about 11:50 a.m. July 3 eight miles north of Sallisaw on U.S. Highway 59. The OHP reported Angela Sexton, 46, was admitted to Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith and listed in stable condition with a leg injury. The OHP reported Sexton was a passenger on a 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by James Ledford, 43, of Bixby. They were traveling south on U.S. Highway 59 when Ledford attempted to pass a 2006 Jeep SUV driven by Brandon Kiser, 31, of Park Hill. Kiser had slowed to turn left at the time and the motorcycle struck the SUV in the driver's side. Ledford was treated and released at Sparks Regional Medical Center. Kiser and four passengers in his vehicle were reported to not be injured.
