Richard Perry Wheeler, past mayor of Sallisaw and deputy chief of the Cherokee Nation, died Sunday in Fort Smith.
Family will visit with friends at the Wheeler Funeral Home Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. A candlelight remembrance will be held at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Perry F. Lattimore Stadium field. Family, friends, and members of the community are encouraged to join in remembering Mr. Wheeler's remarkable life and love for the Black Diamonds by wearing Black Diamond attire. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Baptist Church in Sallisaw.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Sallisaw Education Foundation, P.O. Box 276, Sallisaw, Oklahoma 74955.
