Assessor's Office Moved Due to Mold

The Sequoyah County Assessor's Office has been forced to relocate temporarily, as a safety precaution, after the office tested positive for mold. The mold is thought to have resulted from flooding of the office earlier this year during heavy rainstorms.

County Assessor Donna Graham and staff worked hard Monday to move their office into the Emergency Management Office, formerly the Agent Funeral Home Chapel, located just west of the county courthouse. "I am very sorry for any inconvenience this move may have caused. Hopefully we will be up and running by Wednesday," stated Graham.

District 3 County Commissioner Jim Rogers said Monday afternoon, "After the flooding we decided to have the office tested. We got the report late last night. It was positive. So we took the precaution of moving the office. This is just a safety precaution."

Rogers said ServiceMaster will be cleaning the mold from the office. He said he did not know how long the cleaning will take or how much it will cost the county. He said the county's flood insurance should pay for the cleaning.
