Unemployment Drops Again

Sequoyah County's unemployment rate continues to fall, from first and highest in the state at one time in the past year, to number 15 among the state's 77 counties in February, according in the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission (OESC). The OESC reported last week the county's unemployment fell to 5.8 percent in February down from 6.5 percent in January and 6.2 percent in December. One year ago, the county's unemployment rate was at 8.5 percent. 

The OESC reported Sequoyah County has a total labor force of 16,770 with 15,803 employed and 967 unemployed. Unemployment dropped in 41 of the state's 77 counties in February, the OESC reported. McIntosh County continues to have the highest unemployment at 8.7 percent, while Cimarron County had the lowest rate at 2.0 percent.
