At approximately midnight last night, Monday, March 2, officers with the Sallisaw Police Department were dispatched to West Ruth Street in front of Armstrong Bank in reference to a vehicle that had left the roadway. Upon arriving at the scene officers found a deceased female slumped over in the driver's seat. Officials closed off Ruth Street from Cedar Street to Wal-Mart while the crime scene was worked. That area has now been re-opened for all traffic. According to Sallisaw Chief of Police Terry Franklin, "Sallisaw PD is currently working the case along with the OSBI." Chief Franklin said the case is being worked as a homicide. The body will be sent to the Oklahoma Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. The identity of the female has not been released at this time. We will bring you more details as they become available.
