Traffic Stop Leads to Bomb Threat and Arrest

On Thursday evening, Sequoyah County deputies stopped a vehicle near the intersection of North Shirley and Redwood Street in Sallisaw. During discussion with the occupants of the vehicle the passenger provided his name which proved to be a false identity. According to Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart, the subject was identified as Mark Riffey. Riffey  was asked to step out of the vehicle at which time he stated to deputies that he had a bomb in the truck and would blow everyone up if they didn't back off.  Deputies removed Riffey from the truck and during a struggle he fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit the deputies were able to catch him, according to Sheriff Lockhart. Riffey struggle with deputies and attempted to remove their firearms from them. Riffey was placed in handcuffs and taken to the county jail.

After the arrest it was discovered that Riffey was on bond for kidnapping and rape and had failed to appear for sentencing at his court hearing which was held approximately three hours before his arrest. During the time of his arrest narcotics were also found in his possession. Riffey is being held in the county jail and will face numerous charges.
