Two Hospitalized after Crash

A Heavener man and woman were transported to a Tulsa hospital after the motorcycle they were riding was struck by an auto at 1:28 a.m. Saturday. The crash was on U.S. Highway 59 at Long Lake Hill Road in LeFlore County. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported John William Culpepper, 26, was transported by Life Flight to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa where he was admitted and reported to be in stable condition with multiple injuries. The OHP reported Jessika Marie Everett, 20, was a passenger on the motorcycle. She was transported to Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, then taken by air ambulance to St. Francis in Tulsa where she was listed in stable condition with a pelvic fracture.

The OHP reported Culpepper was driving south on U.S. Highway 59 when an unknown pickup truck turned from Long Lake Road into the path of another vehicle, a 1999 Saturn driven by Rogelio Valenzuela, 18, of Poteau. In order to avoid a collision, Valenzuala swerved into the southbound lane and hit Culpepper's motorcycle. Valenzuela was not injured. A passenger in the Saturn, Arturo Ortega, 19 of Heavener, was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The crash was investigated by the OHP with the assistance of the LeFlore County Sheriff's Department, the LeFlore County EMS and the Poteau Fire Department. By Sally Maxwell, Senior News Director
