Sequoyah County's Unemployment Rate is Third Highest in State

Sequoyah County's unemployment rate continues to be one of the highest in the state, the Oklahoma Employment Security Division reported this week. The county had an unemployment rate of 7.4 percent for August, surpassed by only Latimer County with an 8.1 unemployment rate and McCurtain County which had an 8 percent unemployment rate. But the county's jobless rate is still better than it was one year ago, in August 2013, when the rate was 8.9 percent. The OESC reported Sequoyah County has a total labor force of 16,039, with 14,852 working and 1,187 unemployed. By Sally Maxwell, Senior News Director
