Cherokees Open New Offices under One Roof

Cherokee Principal Chief Bill John Baker and Janelle Fullbright (above, bottom), Cherokee Tribal Council Member, spoke to the crowd at the ribbon cutting and opening of the Cherokee Nation's new one-stop office in the Sequoyah Building in downtown Sallisaw Thursday afternoon. The leased building houses offices for many of the tribe's services under one roof. Cherokee citizens may stop by to look for a job, apply for a loan, get a Cherokee license plate and get information on fostering Native children at the same site, at 100 E Choctaw Ave. The building is the old National Bank Building. The Cherokee Nation's Career Services, Tax Commission, Commerce and Indian Child Welfare Department will all be in one location. Baker said, "This new space in downtown Sallisaw will be a great asset for Cherokee Nation citizens. Nowhere else features this kind of advance one-stop service. This investment and expansion is good for the city of Sallisaw and improves our ability to serve the Cherokee people." For more information call 918-776-0146. For the tag office call 918-775-8026.
