Three-Vehicle Wreck Sends 11 to Hospital

A three vehicle crash Friday morning shut down the Muskogee Turnpike in Wagoner for one and a half hours and sent 11 people to various hospitals. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported an improper U turn was the cause of the crash. The OHP said a 2002 Dodge van, driven by Duane Carter, 53, of Greenwood, Arkansas was traveling south on the turnpike using the barricade turnaround. A second vehicle, a 2007 tractor-trailer, driven by David Housdan, 47, of Tulsa, was following the van. Housdan applied his brakes and was struck from behind by a third vehicle, a 2013 16-passenger bus driven by Donald Green, 56, of Muskogee. The tractor-trailer then had a secondary impact with the van, and a passenger in the van, Nancy Vea, 19,  of Charleston, Arkansas was thrown from the van. Vea was transported to St. Johns Hospital in Tulsa where she was listed in critical condition with head, arm, leg and trunk internal injuries. Another passenger in the van, Brady Osborne, 18, of Las Vegas, Nevada was admitted to St Francis Hospital in Tulsa where he was listed in stable condition with head and trunk internal injuries. The van driver and three other passengers were all treated and released from St Johns Hospital. The van passengers were June Bowden, 82, of Greenwood, Mckell Peterson, 19, of Birmingham, Utah and Joshua Kofford, 20, of Phoenix, Arizona. Housdan, driver of the tractor-trailer, refused treatment at the scene. The driver of the passenger bus, Green, was not injured but five passengers on the bus were all treated and released at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Muskogee. They were Gregory Bilbruck, 48, of Broken Arrow, Nicholas Berens, 36, of Tulsa, James Tilly, 75, of Tulsa, Earlroyal Spain, 63, of Tulsa and Joe Hilt, 81, of Skiatook.
