Denver Man Faces Drug Charges

A Denver, Colorado man was charged August 6 in Sequoyah County District Court in Sallisaw with unlawful possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute and a misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper's report filed with the charges, Errol Keith Powell, 52, was driving east in a white car when Powell drifted across the white line. The trooper stopped the vehicle and Powell told the trooper he was tired. A check of his driver's license revealed it had been cancelled. When the trooper asked to search the vehicle, Powell refused, so a K-9 unit was called in. The dog alerted on the vehicle, and the troopers found several bottles of marijuana, a box of pipes and scales. Powell was arrested and transported to the county jail. He is free on $12,000 bond.
